Orchid species number 1

Comments:
I found these in moss beds in a high altitude coniferous forest, very beautiful species and very impressive. Population is over a thousand plants!

Orchid number 2
amerorchis rotundifolia (Small Round-Leaved orchid)- Canmore Alberta

Comments:
The most beautiful orchid I’ve ever found! Found on a floating moss bed in the middle of a stream. This was a solitary plant which means that there is only one plant around the area, must protect this!

Orchid number 3
Cypripedium passerinum (Sparrow’s-egg lady’s slipper orchid) - Canmore Alberta

Comments:
Very cute looking, looks nice and juicy;). It almost seems like it luminates under the sunlight. Also a solitary plant growing just by itself, found near a calcarious fen.

So far my favorite find was the small round-leaved orchid, absolutely stunning flowers, definitely a beauty of the mountains.
One of my favorite orchids! I'm pretty sure the most recent accepted binominal for what had been Amerorchis rotundifolia has been changed to Galearis rotundifolia. I hate trying to keep up with all the name changes but at least there is usually an interesting reason behind it. I hope to plan a trip to the mainland to see it and Epipactis gigantea one day soon. So many plants and so little time.

Amazing series. Thanks for sharing your findings. Really makes me want to get back to the rockies.

You might be interested in this phantom orchid(Cephalanthera austiniae) that I had the chance to see this spring. Its a non-photosynthetic myco-heterotroph!
