Wild bog’s. The search for carnivourous plants (Vancouver island)

Yeah that’s right it’s probably exactly that one. Have you been to it before? from a distance it looks exceptional!

It almost too late in the season.. but i could be convinced to take another trip up there real early in the new year. I been wanting to attempt to find and photograph carnivorous plants in dormancy before they are buried under the snow for winter.

Stunning photos.. I'm so envious of that beautiful landscape. So D. rotundifolia . I keep buying our 3 native sundews from local nurseries, but they never survive our winter as they have been grown under warm horticultural conditions.
Wow, that mountain lion blew my mind. How cool is that

Carson and I and the dogs looking for new plants.

Mine start going dormant at the end of August every year. Must just be lighting, the sun getting lower in the sky because it’s still plenty hot out at that time of year. They also go dormant the same time of year in the local bogs here.

collect any triantha seeds? side note is it immoral to collect seed from plants growing in the wild lol?

It might be illegal to collect from an official park and certainly illegal from private property. If I saw a lot of plants around and took one seed pod, I would be tempted if it wasn't endangered.

Being a federal park reserve I’m sure collecting seed is definitely against some law. I didn't collect any seeds there just observed plants in the wild being plants. Being a public park I wouldn’t feel right about it, everyone should be able to experience undisturbed wild bog plants.

I have collected wild seed from other bogs that weren’t parks when plants were thriving including Triantha occidentalis for giveaways. I think about half of the recipients had success. http://www.carnivorousplantsociety....tha-occidentalis-western-false-asphodel.4298/
However I mostly try to grow out some seed to give away each year but Triantha occidentalis is not one I have bothered to grow yet.
