Tomatoes

First harvest, Black Prince from the seed bank. Thanks @stevebradford.
Big, firm with the proper give, good taste and aroma. 3 open faced sandwiches with mayo, salt, pepper and a bit of chili flakes.
Stuffed!
My wife enjoyed a good chunk too. Still some for dinner.

I still threw away about 4-5 blossom end rot tomatoes. This seemed less than usual but not conclusive.

I tried some heirloom tomatoes from a high end produce store. Very red, firm but not hard. A tomato smell but not as complex as homegrown. Taste: dull. Lesson: store bought are not worth it (except for the better Canadian cherry tomatoes).
Today had one of the end of season homegrown tomatoes: still slightly green, one soft spot, fragrance excellent, taste, sweet and strongly tomato-y. Worth all the effort.

@stevebradford do you have a favourite for this year of the above ones? I still have 2 plants on my high up balcony that haven’t had a single ripe one yet, despite having close to 60 green Tom’s between them. But of the 10 varieties in my in-ground plot, my favs this year were ananas noir for sandwiches, and strawberry cherry tomatoes for absolute sweetness.

They are all so good!

But.. the ones I love to eat the most are Medusa,
Old German and Yellow Mellow.

And then.. Oxheart are the best for canning! The skins slide off so easily after a short blanch and are very meaty with few seeds.

Also.. Cherry and Current are great for snacking and packing in lunches.

Too hard to stick to just one!
