Found what I believe is a queen carpenter ant drinking from the bog tray tonight. Seems a little late in the year for a new queen? I'll give it a shot anyhow to raise my own small colony....

Also had a hornet attempt to chew it's way out of a Sarr, but the plant still won the fight with heavy damage..

Aren't those aphids? They are destructive but usually it takes a lot of them to kill the leaves. Try brushing or spraying them off.
 
Depending on your time and energy and plant surface area, brushing with a soft paint brush actually works and often the aphids don't come back.
