Here is an interesting insect species I saw recently. The Oregon ant cricket (Myrmecophilus oregonensis).

It lives as an obligate kleptoparasite in ant colonies and gets food from ants via trophallaxis (where the ants regurgitate food to feed each other or in this case the cricket) or from eating the oily secretions the ants produce.

They are able to blend into the colonies by mimicking the way the ants move and by taking on the scent of the colony.

If I get back into ant keeping I’ll definitely try introducing these to one of my colonies to see if it works.
