Seed Question!

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the carnivorous plant space but very excited to have entered into it, and have been into general plant rearing (house plants and gardening) for a number of years now.

I’m particularly interested in finding where to get seeds from crossbred carnivorous plants (particularly drosera and napenthes, but others are fine), the more genetic variation the better! The ideal seeds are those that come from a plant that was likely pollinated with pollen from many different species (ie D. rotundifolia with pollen on each stamens from D. gigantica, D. Spatulata, etc) open pollinated with high intermixing or purposefully crossed. Do any of you know where the best place is to order these or pick them up in the Toronto area? Or, in the off chance, anyone who would be so generous as to have some they can spare/don’t need?

All input is so appreciated.

Thank you,

Chris

Generally, plants will hybridize with other species that are "closely" related. So geographically grouped species like northern dews may hybridize. Also specialized groups like tuberous species may hybridize with other tuberous species. Outside those groupings, not really. Also dews, in my hands, are not the easiest to hand pollinate, the anthers and stigmas are small and delicate. Trying multiple species pollination on one flower: difficult timing (dew flowers are often open briefly). Plus if successful, the seeds would be mixed up and difficult to track, so I'm not sure if anybody has tried or succeeded.
But with the above limitations, there are species hybrids and some people on the forum or elsewhere will have them.
Good luck.

You can check the seed bank here, also Madeleine Cook on Marketplace.

I'd recommend checking out the seller parts of the forums as well if you're looking for seeds other than those in the seed bank :)
