Soil for Sarracenia, I have tried manny.

After moving all my pots twice a year, out of the greenhouse in the spring and back in come the fall, especially this 150 pound water saturated pot filled with 50% peat 50% silica sand.

For Sarracenia i’m now dead set on 50% peat and 50% perlite. With 50% less dead weight, not only do the plants grow well, your back will thrive and your grow tables will thank you.

Thanks @stevebradford and @Lloydgordon for the great info (and mailing tips). Once the seedlings are repotted I'll start acclimatizing them the the great outdoors, same as the other CP's.

I'm building a 4' high moveable enclosure for my outdoor CP's with hardwear-cloth walls and perhaps 2" mesh netting over top to keep the crows/blackbirds (and deer) out but allow insects in. I think this year will be especially challenging with all the critters. It's an active defensive game here against the many, many, chipmunks, squirrels, and rabbits ... sometimes beaver.

Also, I've not been successful finding tall square pots. Ideally, I'm looking for heights of 5"- 9" and squares 3.5" - 6". Last year I scrounged recycled tall, narrow, semi oval pots that fit into carry trays at Independent groceries. They're not bad for interim planting. Do you know of any good sources online (don't need 100 pieces) or elsewhere?

haha, that's a lot of little plants. Be careful when you put them in the sunlight, as they will burn to a crisp if they are not acclimated to the direct sunlight very gradually. Artificial light may be strong but the sunlight is a lot stronger and the plants need to acclimate to it very slowly. You can use a light shade to filter the sunlight and gradually increase the amount of sunlight they get.

So was the seedmat and 24/7 lighting your secret to such vigorous growth early on? I've got one, but wasn't sure if the plants would appreciate the heat on the feet.

HI,I don't think if was the seed mat. once I got the grow tent, I did not use a seed mat. The secret of growing sarracenia fast is lots of good led light, repotting often and fertilizer in the pitchers as they grow (Maxsea). Repotting is very important. I have some that I neglected and they are still small after 2 years!
