Pinguicula lack of colour

Hello everyone!

This winter most of my Pinguicula seem to have lost their colours, prviously they were mostly pinks and purple coulours but have all turned a shade of green. They seem very healthy and have been growing in size but lack any vibrante colours.

I revently moved to a new apartment with very low humidity (~20%) and moved them under a humidity dome for the winter. They are under grow lights with a 12 hour light cycle and 1:1:1 Peat:Perlite:Sand mix.

I have progated via leaf pulling a wole new batch but they uniformly seem to lack any of the colours they used to have.

Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi MatthewN. In my experience, the lack of colour is due to too little light (duration, intensity, distance from light source). In the summer you probably had sunlight/brightness as well stimulating colour. You could try 14hrs of light, a stronger light source, and/or moving your Pings closer to the light. If your lights are fixed at a certain height, you can raise your plants. I use Styrofoam blocks, wood, upside-down trays, pots, etc in my tent. Keep in mind some Pings are naturally green.
The Ping growth cycle may be a factor. Ping experts on the forum may have more information. Congratulations on your leaf pulling!
 
They are getting light, but it's not intense enough for them to develop the colour they previously had.

Here are 2 pots of P. 'Pirouette' that are grown in different areas. One on my overflow bench with lower light (green leaves) and the other (pink leaves) in main grow area.

Do you have any idea what would be required intensity wise? I have an 18 watt LED grow light about 20 cm from the grow tray and it is intensely bright. I have been looking at upgraded to a 96 watt LED grow light but was planning on ~60 cm from my grow bench.
 
Are they dormant?

The best light for pings is natural light (sunlight). Having plants with pink leaves is simply a matter of excessive UV light, especially in "ex situ" collections.
Being green is not irreversible; they can very well turn pink again with stronger UV rays.
