As per previous discussions, the moderators decided to remove the highland species from the above post. As a forum we should try to walk the fine line between allowing access to interesting plants and working to preserve them in the wild.

What previous discussions? So a few deciding for the many? Alright Pm me for the missing Nepenthes that were censored from this list.

so maybe pm me to ask me would have been the better way to go about this using your powers then leave a message like this just makes me question authority and distrust it.

Won't change your mind but this is Gideon's list for those that know him for those that don't he and his group saves and relocates plants in areas that are to be destroyed for Human activities the main cause of problems For plants, fish, and animals. seeds from him and his sources are claimed to harvested to Icps standards.
I'll follow the poll I made and still post my list here the mods can edit as they see fit if people want to see a unedited version they can pm for a copy.

Gideon is a great guy, and does a good job in his own efforts, and he does try to buy things sourced in a more responsible manner. But some of those sources may make irresponsible decisions.

Indeed he does make efforts to buy from people that don't over-harvest, but he is a middle man in the majority of the situations.

I support Gideon, but please don't be blind to what may happen behind the scenes beyond his control.

There almost certainly are degrees of collectors of wild seed, from outright destructive and rapacious to caring and selective. Gideon sounds like he is at the better end. The letter I posted from the ICPS gives more detail, and they recommend no wild seed collection (except under research conditions with proper paperwork).

The amounts of money we pay for wild collected seed seem low for first world countries. However they represent a great deal of money for people in the countries where Nepenthes originate. Enough value to drive plants to extinction.

I think as a group we should emulate the ICPS and head in the direction of no wild seed collection. At the very least we should attempt to vet sources and buy from the ones that seem most responsible. Also we should avoid any seeds that are from species listed as threatened in any degree or from any parks or nature preserves.

Please post sources that you feel are appropriate along with the reasons for your trust.
