I think seed heat mats backed up by local standards are ok. Likely still made in China (what isn't?). This one looks safe.

I have been using they hydroponic system for 2 years, and it still in very good shape.
They know their market is the US, so their security standard are probably at the US level, no?
I'm not sure you can send something not safe 'by their standards' in the US.

You're probably right. Still there's so much dodgy stuff from abroad (like lead contaminated baby food from Ecuador) that it pays to be cautious.

I have the Spider Farmer model (purchased from amazon) - it is very good.
Especially since it doesn't use wires for heating (less likely to be a fire hazard) and comes with temperature controller.

It can't heat anything above 30oC when in a seed tray.
