My first bog pot

Finally got my plants out into my first bog pot today.
It is a 22" high white pot, southern exposure, chicken wired for pests; & covered with plant blanket for sunlight acclimitization.

I've leveraged much details & other's experiences from here to come up with the pot design.

I've a second matching Veradek pot to convert to bog planter. However, I'm going to wait to see how this one goes first. I'm thinking I may want to lower the drains & make them adjustable.

For this pot, I've created a sphagnum moss "pipe" to wick the water up to the media. The bottom 10", or so, has a bucket & large chunk perlite (minimizing the overall weight). I've separated the bottom chunk perlite from the media using window screen & then a layer of sphagnum before the peat moss.

In the pic, I've removed the plastic tube around the sphagnum moss as I added the media.

I wouldn't worry too much about lowering the drains, you can always drill a hole at the bottom end of the pot and bung it with a cork or similar for normal growing and remove it for winter. You may even want to consider bungs for the other drains for summer, its easy to remove them for water level management.
