Carnivorous Plant Addict
My collection of carnivorous plants is new and I don't have much to show for it at the moment, so I'll share some of what I currently grow here instead.

Starting off with Hoya imperialis:
  • Has thick vines & nondescript leaves, but makes huge flowers. Slightly sweet and floral smell but not particularly strong
  • Flowers every month or two
  • Received as an unrooted cutting in 2010, restarted from a cutting in 2018
  • Currently in a 30cm diameter pot and growing up a 1.5m tall bamboo hoop in a south-facing window

Up next is another large flowered Hoya: H. onychoides

I got a cutting of this back in 2010, along with the H. imperialis.

H. onychoides:
  • Flowered for the first time in April 2022, after 12 years of growth
  • Now growing new flower buds every week or two
  • Produces a heavy floral perfume from dusk until dawn. The smell is strong enough to fill a room even with just a one or two flowers open.

Nice hoyas...are they grown in a hot house to get flowers like that. My wife has lots of them too but only a few flower.

Thanks. I grow some hoyas under lights, but the ones I've shown so far grow in front of a south facing window in a regular room. They get sunlight from sunrise until around 3pm.

Here's the last of my large-flowered Hoyas:

Hoya macgillivrayi:
  • Very closely related to H. onychoides. They look nearly identical unless they're in flower.
  • Much easier to flower than the onychoides. I got this as a cutting in 2010 and it flowered within a year.
  • Smells the same as onychoides
  • Flowers look larger than onychoides since they open up fully instead of remaining globular

If you have a few rootings for sell I would like to buy some :)

I have had a dozen species that flowered or are presently flowering…..every night there’s a smell in the room lol

Hoya Keri Variegata flowering Today…can you imagine this plant has more than 35 years of age…some of you were not even born :p

I picked up a small unrooted cutting of Hoya undulata recently. No telling if it'll survive, but I took some photos cuz the leaves look neat. @emcee

Really fantastic texture on the leaves. There are thousands of tiny spikes and bumps, it looks like shark skin.

There are a couple different shades of white and gray splashing on the leaves. At 2:1 macro you can see that these marks are air-filled pockets under the epidermis
