Is Anybody Growing Disas?

Hi Folks, Is anybody on the forum growing Disa Orchids? Specifically any of the evergreen/semi evergreen species and their hybrids (Disa uniflora, racemosa, tripetaloides, aurata, cardinalis)? If so, do you ever collect seed from your plants? The reason I ask is that I would like to try growing some of these ex vitro, since they can be grown on damp sphagnum, and would seem to be ideal companion plants to Sarracenia and Darlingtonia. I'd be happy to purchase some fresh seed if anyone has it available next year.

@H2O had lots at work. I grew lots of Disa seed for him. He has a new job now, I think, so he may not have any.

There are a few of us here in Victoria who grow Disas. H2O still grows them. I grow Disa uniflora with pure live sphagnum in small terra cotta pots. I or someone else I know can send you some fresh seed when it's available.

I grow a lot of my Nepenthes at my work but my Disa have always been grown at home so the collection is still going strong, I have around 50-60 different Disa but have several hundred of them, I am happy to share tubers or stolons with you, or if you really want to try seed I can pollinate some stuff next summer and send you seed.

This was early in the seasons so a bunch of the new ones aren’t in flower.

I would be happy to trade for some, always looking for anything I don’t already grow.

There are a couple seedlings still going but they weirdly don’t put in size! A friend of mine tried some straight in Sphagnum and they worked pretty well. I planted yours out before the greenhouse so maybe I hardened them off in a bad way. We should try another set and see if the greenhouse makes a difference hardening them off.

Wow! Your disas look stunning, and I would definetly want to have a go at them! Which Disas do you find the easiest to grow, and how do you care for them in the winter?
