In ground bog

Would like to install an in-ground bog. I have read all the related posts in this forum... My questions are:
1. Do I need a layer of free water at the bottom ? there is no way to siphon and renew this said water without a pump...
2. Still need a pipe to water the bog. Right / or no need ?
3. If I install pots of CP separately, is it OK ? See my sketch, just ignore the lining at the bottom... The peat will act as insulation as well during winter dormancy.

You don't need free water at the bottom. However the water at the bottom protects the roots from drying out if you forget watering on a hot, sunny day.

I had a big one. There was a rocky free water level at the bottom, but in the years I had it, I never did anything with it... I mostly wanted it so that if I ever needed to flush it, I could. I didn't have a water pipe either, though I see they're very common now.

Just curious why you want to put the pots within the bog?

Want to save the perlite ! Will have pots with different kinds of sarracenia in peat/perlite. And in case I want to change the set up, move around one or some particular species, it will be easier ... What do you think ?

The pots are organized. The roots might be healthier if they can roam free with better aeration and water flow.

I second Lloyd. I can see the ease to having them in pots but I think you'll have hardier and more vigorous plants if they're allowed to freely grow

I would add a pipe. Easier to fill with water. Tested today and watering from the top causes runoff and erosion. Watering through the pipe is better.
It triggers me too to look at it.

Just put down my container bog in ground. A day after, have already some unwanted visitors... Any trick to avoid these not welcomed visitors ?

Life will find a way. There's nothing you can do to keep stuff out, even in the house. The most we can hope for is to control the destructive stuff.
