If you could only give one tip to a new VFT owner it would be...........

Plant them so the roots are in the medium but the bulb is above the medium and is held up by a layer of sand (or perlite should work too).
This way, the roots draw water but the bulb will not be sitting in wet soil.
Bulb rot is pretty much eliminated. My plants do much better since I started doing this with sand after reading the tip somewhere.

I have 2 tips. A larger and taller pot, of a light color so if it is out in the sun , less chances the roots wont cook whole basking ... Second one, snip off the flower stock so plant has.more focus towards growing its traps ...that us if you dont want seeds. The stalks also can be used to grow out new vfts if done right.

I've been growing them for years without dormancy. Also I use short small pots. Not sure if they need drainage either.
