Not a native Texan, grew up in Seattle which is kinda close to Canada. I hope being in Canada is not required to join (ha ha). I first got into CPs as a kid, looking at ads for VFTs in magazines. Back in the late 60s. Yah, I'm pretty old. I mail ordered them and always got a tiny dead looking bulb, no leaves. They never grew into anything. Fast forward to today - Wow, have things changed. Now you can buy VFTs in big box stores. I've been growing varous CPs for years, off and on. Since I live in Texas, it's impossible to grow VFTs outside. So I've done terrariums with lights. But they never seemed to flourish. I need a greenhouse to grow those here.
I stumbled upon this forum while researching dragonstone for my ping plants. I already grow them on pumice and love them. They are so fascinating and so different from other CPs. I've amassed quite a few over the past year since I started growing Mexican pings. I'm always looking for new projects to do. I'm also into mushroom growing, hoyas, native TX plants, and plants you cannot kill (sanseverias). Also do quilts, wire bonsai, fluid art and stained glass.
I'm a lazy gardener, the less work, the better. But I enjoy looking at my beautiful and unusual plant pets.
So happy to have found kindred spirits who love CPs too!
