Growth boost question for sarr seedling.

Stini

Carnivore
On one of windowsill nepenthes interview with Carnivero - Drew , he puts osmocote pellets (about 5 per pot) into the soil mix of the nepenthe seedling to boost their growth rate until the leaves reach a certain length then stops. helps get them to sale size quicker. I tried it on a few of mine and it worked great. leaves get bigger but pitchers dont until pellets are dissolved.

Question is , can it be done with sarracenia seedling to boost their growth rate. ????

I know alot of you use other methods to feed the small pitchers also keep the light on longer to help growth rate. my thinking is if it can work for the neps , why cant it work for other CP in the soil. im not saying all the time , just a few pellets ( 3-5 ) and thats it .

thanks.

Yes it works, you can use about 4 pellets per pot for Sarracenia seedlings.

That said, the most effective way to feed your Sarrs is to feed their pitchers directly.
For small plants you may use a syringe needle + liquid food like maxsea.
For adult, simply leave 1-2 osmocote pellets in each pitcher.
thanks for the info about the soil.

and yes. I have used that method for feeding pitchers before . I feed with a variety of stuff for all my CP . i didnt want to add pellets to the soil and kill off the sarrs.

@WillyCKH and @Stini - That's very useful information about Osmocote. I've been using a dilute Maxsea spray (or "painting") on the very tiny sarrs, and using a syringe for slightly larger pitchers. Mine are growing very slowly, still small. They have good lighting (Willy's), and are in a mix of moist LFS/perlite. I'll try Osmocote to see what happens.

Transplant them, once they hit a point of slowing down i find that transplanting them gives them a huge growth spurt. I put my 6+ month old plants in their own 3 inch pots and they quickly get large pitchers.

That's a great tip. I'll do that soon. It's interesting that some seedlings in the same pot are three times the size of others. I have a large NOID reddish Sarr that Lloyd sent last fall. it's now about 14" tall and produces many healthy shoots. I can hardly wait until my little guys really take off. They're crazy looking and beautiful at once (like many CP's)!

I recently repotted all the seedling into their own pots 3.5" T x 2.5" W (advice from @Jordanferg ) and then add 3 pellets of osmocote per after this post .

sooo looking forward to their growth spurt and hopefully I didnt kill them with the pellets.

@Stini ...I think the Red Moorei x Juthatip and Whiteback x Camisole were seedlings I sent you a year or so ago. Larger and healthier than mine currently. You've got the green thumb! ;) Nice!

yes they are from you and S.kermit - unlabeled pots - left side. and I have a few from @Jordanferg . S .Leucophylla x OP in that pic and Flava Cuprea x OP in another tray thats taking off fast.
thanks . I think it's just luck , learning from all of you over the years and figuring out what works for my setup.
other tray in pics , my adults are in the fridge for dormancy.

@Stini: That's a good article. I'm shopping for Osmocote today. My medium for the Sarrs is 1:1 parts LFS/Perlite. Now I wonder if I should change the mix to 1:1:1 parts LFS/Perlite/Peat. Also my pots vary in size without a significant difference, except for one pot where the plants are slightly larger. The principal difference is that pot is round .. hmmm
