Grafting Cacti

How did your grafts go? I finally got two established. I'm sad to say that the other 4 smaller scions died. I think the ones that died were not "juicy" enough. One of the successful ones had to be regrafted. Now both are growing very well. I hope to harvest some tubercles and graft them. It would be nice to get a lot of nice sized ones to distribute.

You were right to be dubious of my technique. The graft completely failed to the point of the Escobaria falling off and growing new roots from the healed cut. I repotted it and it's doing fine and at least now I know for sure what not to do. Thats great to hear you had some success! I'm waiting on some nice robust new growth on my host plants to try again.

My second graft. I was really scared of doing this one. Ariocarpus Fissuratus scion on a myrtillocactus geometrizans rootstock. It has been a bit more than a month now since it was grafted.

Very nice. I only got one Ariocarpus to take and it seems to have petered out :(

I gave up on grafting the Escobaria vivipara and am just going to try and be patient. Too much other stuff on the go. I potted them up to give them lots of room. Largest is around the size of a loonie. Here's the pot where I put all the biggest ones:

I just got a couple new interesting cacti from a friend. Escobaria sneedii var. leei which clumps and Opuntia fragilis 'Tiny Michigan' which is a dwarf Opuntia. I'll share some with you when I get some spare pads Lloyd if you don't already grow them.

See the little thing sticking out the top of the green stick? That's a Mammillaria prolifera scion. And that's not the smallest! I have another, Copiapoa that I can hardly see with my loupe and is maybe alive?
