Peatmoss
Carnivore
I've been pondering a trip out to Nova Scotia to try and see D. filiformis in the field for a couple of years, and finally got around to it last week. I was in New Brunswick to do some birding, so I hopped the ferry from St John to Digby, and drove down to Shelburne County to check out some sites. Unfortunately due to extremely dry conditions, I wasn't able to access certain sites, but did manage to get one roadside populations and got ok photos with a telephoto lens. The habitat seemed delicate, so I didn't go in for a closer look (this species is listed as endangered under COSEWIC), but it was a worthwile detour nonetheless. Other carnivorous plants were Drosera intermedia and Sarracenia purprea (I didn't see any rotundifolia, but assume they also occur, not sure about Utrics). This is a really special population of a striking plant - I was very happy to get to see them, and will definitely head back the next time I'm out East to try and see a few more localities. I've embedded the photos from my flickr page as the file size was too large to upload.
