Drosera capensis

Well, there is glass lid on this little tank that helps keep the humidity and heat up. I have now found is also great at preserving the capensis flowers open.
I knew the flower inflorescence was growing tall but this is funny. At least I get to see the open flowers.

When the Drosera Capensis produce new leafs but looks deformed and don’t mature like a normal leaf then you will have to look for two mainly things:

1. An insect attack (Use systemic insecticide for best results)

2. Sickness due to pathogen attack (isolate the plant and hope it can survive the attack)

For both situation, it’s recommended to isolate the plant from healthy plants so you don’t have a spread of the problem.

I have produced many thousand of Drosera Capensis, and the ennemy number one is the insect attack. Mostly all the Drosera Capensis that were affected had deformed leaves and didn’t produce any more dew on the new leaves. Insects can attack the roots system, rhizome and the leafs so that’s why a systemic insecticide is the best. When treated the Drosera Capensis recuperates and the new leafs are normal and reproduce dew again but expect to wait many weeks before the plant get well.

Hey all,

I was gifted a Drosera Capensis that is growing leaves around that 2-3" long mark. It has recently began growing a flower (at least that is what it appears to be turning into) and I was wondering if it might be best for me to cut this off while the plant is still a little younger or if its fine to leave it alone and let it do its thing?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

From what I've read, flowers aren't as taxing on drosera as they are on venus flytraps. So you could probably leave it on, enjoy the show and then collect more seeds than you'll likely ever need.
I have a capensis alba flowering. I cut off the stalk and put it in a jar of water to see if it'll still bloom. I tried to do some research and see if this is a viable method, but couldn't find anything. So maybe I can still get flowers without the plant wasting energy. Can anyone else chime in on putting a drosera stalk in water?

If you decide to clip the flower stalk, you can grow it into separate plantlets.

Thanks! I am going to try letting it flower and we'll see what happens!

Hi, is it normal a capensis alba shed its leaves every 2-3 days ? I notice that my others capensis (not alba) loose their old leafs not so quick... Does capensis alba need particular growth conditions ? Have tried less light, less heat, shade, full light... you name it...LOL
Actually, its under LED strips, 18 hours, 27-28 celcius, 70 % HR. 5 inches from light. Thank you.
p.s. Even without flower stalk, the plant looses its leaves quite fast !!!
