Daydreamer's picture thread

Glad to see they are doing well! That's interesting about the moorei though. Could be lower viability if they self pollinated. Lazy bee's at work that day maybe

Things are waking up, finally something to stare at for hours on end. They all look really green, including my purpureas that were very deep red last year under the same lights. I'm guessing this is characteristic of spring growth, else I'll have to upgrade my lights

The smaller tiny black pots are separated and destined to be in the container bog I'll be building this year

Update on Jordan's seeds, moorei did get more germination so I guess they just lag behind a bit, starting to see pitchers without straining my eye! I have a screen over it because I have a pretty nasty gnat problem

Bonus non carnivorous gardenia bloom

I got a new shipment of plants!

Two helis, scarlet belle, a leuc hybrid and darlingtonia. I broke off two leaves from the heli by accident, didn't know they were so fragile, hope it pulls through

Also my existing plants looking good so far after waking up from dormancy. Flexx starting to color up but dentates seem to be really green.

I went out to get some gravel to top dress an outdoor bog I'm building and it's bubbling when I do the vinegar test :( Not every rock is bubbling but there's a few. Anyone tried doing this with no ill effect? Including pic of a tokaiensis as tax

A top dressing may not be too bad. I'm leary of any available rocks except for pure silica as I'm never sure what's in it.

Hello!
I would like to write a little about my experience picking up this hobby, what I've learned but it's mostly rambling. I've never really been into plants but somehow found them appealing to be around after receiving a bromeliad as a gift. I then started buying seeds for herbs/flowers and started growing them
Now I had a nepenthes as a child when I had my parents bought me one, but it lasted about 4 months before it perished. I spotted them walking around at the local garden center and purchased them on impulse.

It had no labels, except "Asian Pitcher Plant" on it, so it was a mystery on what it was.

I walked into a different store looking for house plants and saw these weird things I never knew existed (Drosera) which were placed right beside venus flytraps. I bought them on impulse :)

I thought they looked great at the time...boy was I in for a surprise. Anyway, this alien thing grew and I started reading up on it, snipped it off and stuck it in sphagnum, more to come.

I went on a business trip in Toronto where I scoped out a store and picked up two more flytraps (dentate/red dragon). It was an experience flying with them, as they were packed in a reptile box with breathing holes. TSA freaked out asking if it was a snake in there and I got a lot of looks carrying it around. Continued on next post, seems to have hit a limit or something

Hey, was wondering what your nep looks like as of late? Bought one just like yours a few weeks ago :)

Put them outside this week! Sarr unfortunately too weak to handle even light winds after being indoors, hopefully the next set of leaves can handle the wind. Still unsure about top dressing due to my concern in an earlier post

Looks a bit barren for now, might get more sarrs from the store when they start stocking them
