This was a new site for all of us yesterday. It was a nice bog but show clear signs of drought stress, which is typical for many bogs in the area.
There is a constant discussion over vulgaris and macroceras and I will try to exclude any opinions on the topic and only stick to facts.
Many plants that I’ve found on Vancouver Island fit the description of P. macroceras but this area is if full of plants that, with my limited taxonomic skills, do not fit the description.
Even though P. vulgaris is not supposed to grow in the area I question whether the geographical separation is between the two species is warranted.
@roraima, @Smilodonichthys @jeff I would love to know your optional on this plant. I chose this plant as it shows a newly opened and aged flower, showing that the corolla lobes are fully expanded and do no overlap.
Spur detail.
