Amorphophallus

Peatmoss

Carnivore
Hey y'all,

I've been interested in growing this genus for a while, but they're a bit tricky to source in Canada, back in early December I managed to find a seed source for Amorphophallus konjac that looked reliable (seeds are recalcitrant, so they need to be fresh), and despite the cold weather and 41 days in the mail, I now have two seedlings that are growing well. I've grown Sauromatum venosum before, but unfortunately those plants got cooked during a heat wave, I'm looking forward to growing out their much larger cousins. Is anyone else growing any of these?

Once you have one konjac you will have many. They offset for me like potatoes! Can't really help you source things in Canada I am sorry to say. Here in the States we are lucky enough to have some serious collectors, and so getting some unusual ones is a bit easier. I was even able to pickup Amorphophallus perrieri, which is supposed to be good an stinky. It's an interesting group!

A. perreri is a really interesting looking one! I hadn't realized how diverse the genus was (I was mostly familiar with titanum and konjac), but there's an impressive array of both foliage (the patterned petioles are a big draw for me) and floral forms. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on seeds for some interesting species if I'm able to handle the konjac!

Fraser Thimble Farms has a couple types they sell as bulbs, same with Phoenix Perennials.

I saw them last year, but I had missed the order window, I'll definitely get in touch with Fraser Thimble Farms next year and try to get some corms from them!

I had a Sauromatum venosum. After a few years I had literally dozens of bulbs.

I think I got some from you on the old forum, they flowered for me but unfortunately I lost the plants in a heatwave, it's an excellent species!

I have A. konjac and S.venosum in several copies... 1 of each A. yunnanensis and dunni which refuse to go out of dormancy since i received them last fall, few seedling of another one which i cant seems to remember right now... and still looking to expand my collection on those (+ Arisaema for outdoor)

Hi. I just got some seed myself. I was wondering if you can start seed at any time or in late winter like the bulbs? All the info I’ve found about Konjac only talks about starting from bulbs.what infomation about seeds I’ve found just says that they can take several months to germinate.

look here you must have answers
