AliExpress

Measures particulate matter. Useful with horrible forest fires!

Just stumbled across this thread. I got almost all of my lab equipment from Aliexpress. Got glassware from here and general lab stuff (pipettes, etc) from here.
I've also had some pretty good luck with Temu. It's pretty similar to Aliexpress but much faster shipping (trade-off I've found is slightly higher prices). This diaphragm pump has worked well for my misting system.

Cainiao Super Economy Global

I've had two items shipped by this method recently which never came and I got full refund.
This is the cheapest shipping and isn't tracked in Canada.
I have a feeling that this isn't AE's fault but some problem at our end.
Anyway, consider paying more for shipping, maybe get tracking in Canada.
I have 4 more items coming and I suspect they will not arrive. They were all cheap but it's annoying as I want/need them for experiments.

If possible try to go with the combined shipping above a certain amount (14 days above $11ish). it usually gets delivered in a reasonable time without problems. The cheapest option usually comes without tracking and it could mean a long wait or even lost package.

I think the $11 or so is from the same vendor only. I've done that before. I don't mind the 2 month wait but not getting 2 items is worrisome. I ordered one item with trackable shipping at $5.41, still way cheaper than local.

Just got some pH paper after 2 months, skipping 3 other items that haven't come. Same Cainiao shipping. Is this pilfering by Canada Post? Who knows. Will everything else come eventually? Mystery.

This is the 14-day option I mentioned, it seems to be reliable enough that I haven't lost a package from it yet. I had one problem with an order in the past few months, but that's because the seller didn't declare magnetic materials inside.
It's available from some vendors (check shipping option to check!) and you can combine the total >$11 before shipping cost, across the whole shopping cart!

I never even knew about the shipping options until the last week or two.
I thought the $11+ shipping option was only for the one vendor. Do you mean you can buy stuff from any number of vendors and if it all adds up to the $11+, you can get the fast shipping option?
I need @WillyCKH to make a YouTube video or give me a Zoom video to teach me about AliExpress.

Yes! You don't need the $11 sum from one vendor. If you have any question I'm happy to help. I have been ordering some 3D printer parts haha.

Just bought a plumbing part, paid for tracking to home, arrived in 10 days. Part either not available in Canada or 10 x more expensive.

Technically buying anything over $25 or so, oneay be subject to duty but in all my years of buying, usually under $30, i never got any duty. China has 3rd world status thus shipping from China, it costs next to nothing.

Ordered pH 5.5-9 paper Dec 10, 2023. AE confirmed delivery last week as it went over the expected delivery date. I requested a refund, still waiting. Today a typical AE packet arrived by mail. It was postmarked Emirates Post. The tracking number was not the one that AE gave and the number on the packet was untraceable by Emirates Post. Clearly it was mailed by a Chinese post. This is so weird, not really a scam, not sure what to make of it. Maybe they're trying to cheat Canada Post on delivery charges.

Got a replacement pH paper today, also wrong pH range! Turned out I didn't look closely at the clicky things. The default wasn't the same as the one in the description. AliExpress is not for the faint of heart! Agggghhhho_O

Days of cheap shipping maybe numbered. Last june 2023, usa and probably canada is looking to change cheap shipping from china (AE, temu, shein etx).t his happens thanks to a "de minimis" rule exempting packages valued at $800 or less from tariffs. In usa, over $700M was spend for these little packages alone all duty free and packages delivered by pur postage workers....maybe AE is looking at altwrnative loopholes so items are now sent from Middle East
