CP media: do different genera require diff media?

Yeah that makes sense and I already assumed it would be a trial and error situation. Thanks for the input!!

CP media: do different genera require diff media?

This question is coming from my experience in the orchid world, where some orchids are epiphytes and grow best in sphagnum moss where others are terrestrial and grow best in potting soil. Is this true of the CP genera as well? Do some grow better in one or the other or is there more...

    Willy's DIY LED Grow Lights

Wow @WillyCKH this LED build is quite impressive! How much would something like this cost? Of course probably shipping to the US (Wisconsin) would be the killer :) I am looking for the best LED setup for my intermediate to low light requiring orchids in my 90cm x 90cm x 45cm deep exo terra...

Hey Lloyd, can you please direct me to the post/section on acronyms used in the CP world on this forum? I know I saw it but can't remember where. I keep coming across abbreviations in posts where I have no idea what they mean. I think LFS is long fiber sphagnum, right? What is a '1020...

Cooling with aquarium chiller and radiator/fan

Thanks so much for responding @Avery! I thought your use of a chest freezer with your diy radiator was such an elegant method for cooling and it got me thinking about how affective an off-the-shelf radiators like the Alphacool radiator...

Cooling with aquarium chiller and radiator/fan

And if you think about it, with an aquarium chiller you still need a large reservoir to hold the fluid you will be circulating. Having a cabinet to hide all of the apparatus is a good way to go and, regardless of which route I take, I will aim to hide as much of the equipment as possible. But...

Cooling with aquarium chiller and radiator/fan

@Stanley I absolutely agree that cost is a major issue. I had convinced myself that it almost would be worth it if the resulting solution was a nice and neat, clean, aesthetically pleasing system that allowed a drop below 60F at night. I still want to explore just cycling antifreeze directly...

Cooling with aquarium chiller and radiator/fan

@H2O, still no reply from Avery?? I’m dying to know if he got an off-the-shelf, store bought radiator(s) to work effectively. I’ve seen so many people discount the concept but I really feel he was on to something with his particular setup. Just wondering if he took it t the next level.

    My Dracula Den

Nice set up. So do you ever have problems with algae breeding in your wet clay pellets at the bottom? I’m trying to decide how to organize the bottom of mine and what material to use. Also, does LFS stand for long strand sphagnum? Is that the non-living stuff?

Love this setup and can’t wait to see the Dracs in bloom! Def keep us posted. I just got the 36”x36”x18” Exo Terra myself off Craigslist down here in WI and can’t wait to fill it with Pleurothallids. I’ll dig around more on the forum but do you have another terrarium dedicated to other...
