A group of us @H2O @Carson Hardy @Smilodonichthys @roraima and more very knowledgeable guys, Made it out the the San Juan area bogs today. We revisited Obo bog from our trip last year, as well as a new one just as great named Kludahk bog

We seen much more of the awesome usual carnivourous plants Drosera anglica, Drosera x obovata, Drosera rotundifolia and Pinguicula vulgaris maybe ssp. macroceras (it was hotly debated)

Half of us made another amazing discovery of a huge paddling of drosera in Kludahk bog

Great photos and what a place.
I hiked into some bogs on the island with H2O, Roraima and others a few years ago. They sure know their stuff.

Thanks! My parents are in Sidney now so I will probably be back once air travel is safe!

the green frog is a pacific chorus frog and boreal chorus frog
I am not aware of any boreal chorus frogs being found on Vancouver island. As far as I know both of the frogs in Steve's post and the one in mine are just various colour morphs of the pacific chorus frog(Pseudacris regilla). Its amazing how many combinations of colour and pattern these frogs have. They have even been known to change colour.

Hey Chad did you guys find anything amazing in that second bog after the group split up. On our way out Carson and Andy found fields of the trifecta of Drosera even more impressive than Obo but only on one side of the bog. Did you guys find any massive clumps of sundews on the other side of that bog?

That bog was awesome the majority of it was very similar to other bogs in the area except for the very surprising corner full of sundews and Carson’s upwelling/geyser. It definitely was a bog worthy of naming, we are going to go back in about a month to see the fields of Drosera at full size as they were still small.

We came up with this for a name for that second bog?
Kludahk bog

We ended up hiking up to the lake up the ridge from the bog. It was partially ringed by sphagnum with many gentians and was totally worth checking out. After checking the lake we decided to make our way out following the creek that drains the bog. On our way to the creek we came across some seeps blanketed with drosera like in your pictures. Along the creek we found tons of pings and it turned out to be even better than the lower section closer to obo that we walked up with you guys. Last time Paul and I checked out this bog we found many hilly seeps that look like perfect drosera habitat but it was still too early for anything to be up.
