Turface

Got this bag of turface MVP today (actually 2 bags)
Going to run some pings in it to see how they do.
My current mix has had mixed results. Some thrive and others just sit there. My esseriana have exploded on my current mix but ehlersiae have been painfully slow.

It's a type of kiln dried clay. It holds and wicks water quite well and you can use it as an all mineral soil mix for Pinguicula. Or you can blend it with other things like sand and lava rock to make a mineral blend.

I love this stuff. I use it in all my Ping mixes as well in my Cypripedium substrate. A lot of alpine plant growers like it because it holds moisture but has perfect drainage.

I was never able to find Turface in Toronto so I've used oilsorb from the auto section (Canadian Tire). I think it's similar stuff?
