I like planing 4 or 5 varieties. Sweet millions for snacking. Roma for sauce. Scotia for salads. And something larger like beefsteak for chow and salsa. All of these produce more than I can use.

I think it has to do with your growing technique. I'm not the best. One of my friends grows incredible tomatoes and I did only so-so with her seeds.
That being so, check maturity time and disease resistance. The smaller tomatoes are more reliable if your conditions are not the greatest.
