Sarracenia seedlings

I tried using a syringe to drop dilute fertilizer my baby sarrs but the drops would just slide off the plant bodies so i tried putting some in their 'mouths' haha didn't really work. Hopefully they get something from it regardless.
That's because the plant is still too small. In that case, just spray the whole plants with a spray bottle until they are large enough to receive it in the pitchers as that work very well too. You still have to put it diluted to 1/4. Once they will be big enough, the water drops will go down easily. That's usually around 3 to 4 months old.

I was going to buy some small Blunt tip needles, but I felt my family would think "other things" so my above process takes a while.

I went at the pharmacie and asked them for a needle, they asked me why and I told them, so they gave me the smallest needle they had but that does not change the size of the water drops. I use it to feed my small pitchers as I can slide it inside the pitcher easier.

They will grow faster with MaxSea. That stuff is amazing. Just spray them and watch them grow. I am still spreading my 3 months old seedlings because there are only a few pitchers that I can fill for now. But it's fun to watch them grow and see how they turn out. Here are some 3 months old with their parents:

And here is another pitcher that my ONLY red throat seedling has just popped out. It's 6 months old and 7'' tall, but really beautiful little thing. It looks like the red throat is not en easy thing to get because out of 112 seedlings (2 seeds pack) it's the only one showing this trait and it's my most vigorous seedlings from that batch.

Looks like I have at least 2 keepers in one of my seed batch. Leuco green open pollinated. They are maybe not rare by any means, but they are for me since I did not have anything like it in my collection. The red throat sarra is going to be really white. The top is pretty much all white and it's going more and more white with each new pitcher. It's now around 10'' tall, 7 months old seedlling.

Not sure what this one is, maybe some kind of moorei? It's starting with a light top, and it going all red with time. It is amazing how diverse the seedlings are, and I was expecting something like this because it is open pollinated and I have no clue what the father plans are.

I think my seedling with the red throat looks a lot like one of the Hampshire carnivorous plants, I found this photo on the web from them. I was hoping to find it on their web site but no trace of it. Mine will probably look like this on the top right as it mature, I guess. Anyone have a clue what could be the father plant? Flava?

YOu might be better off starting your own thread about this. I am not so sure, maybe some insects? thrips?
It's just strange because it's only a single plant in a tub of 8 plants. I'll check closer for pests but I haven't seen anything out of the norm.

Anyways, this baby finally opened up yesterday!

It's the damaged brown areas that make me think they are attacked by some insects. They have a lot of brown spots.

These 2 are getting pretty as well:

A moorei I think, white top white pitcher, a pink lip and pink throat, as the pitchers mature, the inside of the mouth is also becoming red.:

and this one, it is mostly white with the mouth becoming red with time and the whole area underneath the lid also become red, just like areolata. Each new pitcher is a little more white.:

I am glad I did not cull any because that last one was doing nothing until a few weeks ago and it is 8 months old. It was a plain boring little green thing, then it popped a beautiful little pitcher. That is why I will keep all my seedlings until they are more mature, until they all produce this type of pitchers. Culling and destroying plants before they have the chance to show their real potential is a total waste and a risk of destroying an exceptional plant, but one that does not grow so fast, just like Adrian Slack. Who care that Adrian Slack grow slowly? it is still an amazing plant for breeding and a beauty to watch.

I am not sure why people buy hundred of seeds only to have to destroy 80% of them because they don't have the room. pity. I have seen people cull their seedlings at 2 or 3 months old, when they are only little brontosaure shaped pitchers and they cull for size and color, but that too is deceiving because some plants will grow slow at first but suddenly they will catch up or even grow faster than the other seedlings.

In the case of open pollinated plants, it is even more important to give each plant a proper time, because so many possibilities are in there.

And a last one, this will surely beat my hurricane creek white any time. All 3 plants are from the same seed batch, from just one mother plant! I had so many different looking and beautiful plants from the seed batch. :

I saw another thread about this in the pro board sarracenia forum and it is probably the thrips larvae that are damaging your plants, or mites. they say the larvaes are nearly impossible to see with bare eyes and mites are so small that you need a pocket microscope to see them. Mites won,t be destroyed with insecticide and need a miticide. But you could follow the advice in the thread and use heat, 114F for 30 minutes with the plant totally submerged. You should isolate that plant , not sure what at this point, but check out that thread:

I have a pocket microscope I can use to see if I can spot any thrips/mites.

I have a jug of concentrated End-All insecticide (include miticide). Does anyone know if it's safe to use for CPs?

But first, identification is best if you can. I really don't know if your product is safe or not. Maybe you can try the heat ? if they are mites, it will them.

Then you should post a new thread in the appropriate forum so more people can see it and answer. In my seedling thread, not sure a lot of people are going to see it. Good luck, but do it quickly before it spread.

I do find the Neem recipe (on the forum) works for thrips. May need repeated treatments. Thrips will quickly get resistance to commercial stuff which are so toxic as to be best avoided anyway. I can see thrips but they are small and I am nearsighted.

That would work for thrips, but not for mites. Mites are special and require a miticide or a heat treatment for 30 minutes (which sarracenias can withstand easily).
