Pinguicula esseriana browning in the center

This thread and substrate discussion brought to mind the esseriana I used to have on my kitchen windowsill so I dug up the pictures so you have something to compare your setup with. I don't remember the ratio I used but you can see the mix is very different from yours. The container was a shallow tray, no deeper than the tags you can see in the picture so the substrate was maybe 1/2cm deep. I just dripped water onto the surface as needed and I would pluck leaves whenever the plants looked strong and healthy (an addictive habit) which is why there are so many baby plants ;)
Hope they provide some inspiration!

Wow! Unfortunately mine are all gone :,( I knocked the pots by accident, not all plants fell but that was enough to wipe them out, including 2 P. Weser leaf pullings that were already ~5mm in diameter. Wasn't a good start for the year.
From observing P. Weser, I notice they do better when I forget to water them for weeks... :-/ So the secret sauce is substrate + minimum drops of water?

especially for leaf cuttings do not water, you just put your cuttings on a substrate (perlite ,peat or vermiculite) or inert material like absorbent paper, just wet.
you leave them all to braised ( à l'etouffee en français ) at 20-24 ° C, you let your buds develop in this atmosphere until the complete disappearance of your old leaf

Sorry to hear about your losses!

I recently got a couple esseriana and keep them generally in the drier side. The humidity is up but the substrate is pretty dry most of the time. And it seems to be doing okay!

Slightly off topic: I'm practicing propagating pings. Below is P. Weser in perlite/vermiculite/peat. Lets see how it goes...

in my opinion your substrate is too coarse, you should crush it a little more, leave them all to braised ( à l’étouffée)

otherwise try with just a damp paper absorbent , put your cutting on it , close the box and leave it at 20-24 ° c

I tried propagating some older ping leaves that I was removing. They all withered away lol maybe I need to pluck some younger/healthier leaves...

Succulent leaves always have better chance to strike. Older leaves have lower chance; but you don't want to use the newest either.
