I really want to get one and there is one that I have my eye on right now but, from what i understand, they are quite endangered in the wild so I wouldn't want to buy it until im at least 98% sure i wont kill it.

would be a shame to kill such a genetically important plant

but yeah, i would love to hear peoples experiences with growing it too. are they particularly difficult to grow? do they have any quirks?

If you are moderately good at highlands, you can grow a nepenthes rajah x mira from brads greenhouse. I think it would look great in your collection! They look absolutely stunning and are mass produced in borneo exotics and apparently are hardier and faster growing.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just had a look a that is indeed a really pretty plant :)
I just bit the bullet and bought a hamata though, so my wallet is crying in the other room
(and im already eyeing up that hamata x veitchii)

though, ill probably be ready to pick one up by the time they are back in stock :D

thats reasonable! i would love to try it but cant afford a 50 dollar plant that i might kill. i like to stay safe and just slowly ascend up the cp stairs! i would love to see how your hamata is doing, if I bought one, my mom would be furious! (we have a meter long n.miranda just taking up space :))

I hear ya!
I didnt really know what i was doing when i first started so one of the nepenthes i ordered was a vieillardii which has a reputation for being kinda weird and not growing well for a lot of people. Luckily though, I havent killed any of them yet! though the bellii is stalled out as a tiny little plant cause of a fungal issue that started because i potted it in the wrong mix.
anyway, after that initial hiccup, i started on to some ventricosa, alata and miranda and built up from there. That is definitely what i should have done from the start

too bad i don;t have any space for nepenthes. after that whole nepenthes miranda thing, I am kind of reluctant to get another because they might grow to unholy sizes! Plus, it survived and thrived in pure peat so that is now its new potting mix (we confused peat with sphagnum)!

Strange! Can I see your baby hamata? I love toothy pitcher babies. Also would love to see that viellardi! It seems so interesting!

I will probably trade him for a small easy lowland seedling. Preferably a newbie yet beauty! If my dad (tired of so many plants) lets me! Ha

I have Brad holding on to the hamata for a couple weeks until I get the polycarbonate panels on my greenhouse and have that all set up but here is the vieillardii

The arrow is pointing to the biggest leaf it had when i got it maybe a year ago. its not the fastest grower but its growing steadily
