So here is my first attempt at deflasking a cephalotus. I got this little plant like 6 months ago (give or take) but it never really developed roots so i figured it was time to take it out and see if it could survive on its own. spoiler alert: it couldn't

the little pot that i have it in has a lid so i have that on the whole time so it didnt dry out. maybe it got too much light?

does anyone have a link to a guide for deflasking cephalotus? I cant seem to find that information anywhere. also is there any hope that this plant will come back?

I haven't done it in a long time. I remember the plant was a ball of Ceph around 3 cm. which separated into lots of little plants which did well for a number of people.

Sorry, I think it's gone, unfortunately. This is likely caused by other fungus or bacteria eating your newly deflated plant. TC plants are submerged and spoiled with clean environment and nutrients around them, while they are not yet prepared to fight against other things the high sugar content in them may attract other things to eat them.
To acclimate a TC plant it's best to have media as clean as possible. In some challenging cases you might even be want to transfer the plants to media that has been autoclaved to ensure the survival.

well thats disappointing :(

I think im going to keep an eye out for an established cephalotus and leave the tissue culture to the professionals

I plan on using my instant pot, and doing the pot in pot method of sterilizing my media.
I still have a Ceph in a flask I got from Willy last summer.
It's still going, and there is still gel in the flask for it to use, but I think it's time to open it up!

Yes i have the info , but doing it as a book, with many other CP plants , from pollination to T/c to de-flaking to growing on much to Lloyd's delight I'm thinking ha ha ha :) , but will be a while yet , just starting Heilamphora now, Cephs is part one already completed :) see photo below a few pots de-flasked and growing on well , did over 40 pots like this recently only a few loses .

I had one Ceph culture from seed. Grew into a blob of little Ceph's. I gave a lot away and I think a lot did well.

A old post, like to give a interesting process update i do now for deflasking cephalotus , the use of Mycorrhiza like Great white i use now a mixture of great white and MycoGold to give more beneficals and Trichoderma ,mix 50 50 , deflasking is tricky at best of times, cephs are probly one of the hardest to achive .
I found by taking the plants out of the jar, washing off gently ,seperating the plants getting all the agar off yes yes yes !in tempered water , very important ! then soaking in a soluction of Mycorrhiza , I use 5gm to 1 lite of water approxx , i use tempered water very important here! ,I use rain water put in the Greenhouse for a day to get water temp about right unless its 30 c in there then may be not water needs to be about house room temp , soak the plants in the solution for up to 5 to 6 hrs , this process helps with keeping the small plants from just up and dying, i also use this method when transplanting cephs to a new potting mix or pot, they just dont go backwards ,.i recenly did a transplant with out soaking they plants all went backwards immediately1/2 died, the next lot in did with soaking soluction 100% sucess with all , lesson lerned even for me :) ,the plants were from leaf pullings and potted plants ,hope this helps , as usually any Q & A let me know :)

the plant here in well underdevoped ,and would be very diffcult to get going in any grow area ,way too spindaly and with no roots would need some very special care , only except or buy exvitro that are deveopled and have roots for easier hardeing off and growth ,have put a guid in this post how to do a improved .deflasking
