This thread is dedicated to growing Darlingtonia from seeds, please share your methods, photos and ideas!
Great thanks to @Kdawg for the generous seed giveaway!
I should have taken a macro shot of the seeds before I cold stratified them. Your photo makes them look spikier than the ones I received! I currently have the Darlingtonia seeds in a zipped up plastic bag amongst 2-3 strands of moist sphagnum moss. I have them at the bottom of my fridge crisper. I am planning to sow them after 2 weeks as per my conversation with Kdawg. Still debating about the substrate if I successfully germinate them.
Mine are in the fridge with a bit of damp live moss. I will "strat" for 3 weeks or 21 days. Will probably germinate with a peat/perlite/sand mix.
"The emergences from the seeds help them to get caught in fur as well as microfiber clothing."
I found it really interesting that they adapted this seed transportation method.
I am about to sow the D. californica seeds on the 10th of December. I may do a mixture of chopped long-fibered sphagnum moss, peat, and pumice in a shallow undrained container. Still thinking about it.
It's sowing day for me. I am going with a glazed undrained shallow container using a LECA (Light expanded clay aggregate, Hydrofarm Grow!T brand) false bottom. Long fibered sphagnum moss (Besgrow Spagmoss brand) will be the media and I will introduce live sphagnum moss clumps once the Darlingtonia plants get large enough and established. This will be similar to how @steve booth grows his plants in.
I sowed my seeds on the 2nd and they are popping up as of two days ago. 10 days ish.
Peat, perlite, sand. Even parts. The pot is sitting in a tray of rain water. And I have it partially covered to keep it humid.
Temps... day 23-25 Night 16-18. I think I crowded the seeds a bit to much and will have to separate when they get bigger.
