Got up at 6:45 am to go to Sobeys seniors only shopping. Almost nobody there, which was good.
Cant figure out why mushrooms were sold out. Don't people know you can't stock up on fresh mushrooms? Maybe too early to put out.

Maybe they have seen those misleading videos and thought they can grow their own mushroom easily. o_O

I believe that growing mushrooms can be easy! I am currently colonizing old coffee grounds from a store bought oyster. It's working! But contamination was happening because I added the coffee grounds faster than the oysters could colonize. So, I put it in the fridge. It now looks like the oyster is beginning to outcompete some of the molds. Only time will tell!

I don't want to be the buzzkill but more seriously, buying seeds from around the word... isn't it irresponsible and risky?
Because it's really itchy to me buying some... For now I have resisted but I'm starting to feel my patience dull

What are you doing? How are you reacting to it?

I'm lucky because I have a mini fridge full of CP seeds.
Btw, international mails are majorly affected, Canada post has a huge list of countries that they no longer send to or receive from. I had to stop international seed sales for little green monsters.

US is still available but rumor has it that Trump could shut the border in June...

Everything is affected these days, mail may be delayed or not be able to get through (see Willy's posts elsewhere).
However, the inevitable time associated with shipping would make sure any virus would be dead.
Our main risk now is local transmission, unfortunately. Travel is almost nonexistent now.
Trump can't even stop 3M from shipping masks to Canada. He's not all powerful, although he thinks he is.

I've gotten saturated with news.
I follow all the precautions suggested and just read the Toronto Public Health summary which comes out weekdays.

Mask DIY
Put #2 coffee filter into #4 filter
Tape corners to reinforce
Make small holes in taped part
Pass #24 Staples elastic band through hole and tie a knot of some sort
Fold a piece of foil over and over to make a flexible strip
Fix strip with tape (conforms to nose)
Carefully put on, shaping to face
Breathe

I don't know why the government did not plan ahead for providing us with masks. I work at a CHSLD and yes we do have cases or coronavirus infections in my work place, so I am very scared to go to work. I have been telling them for a month now that they must put masks when in close proximity with the residents, but they were ignoring me, clearly did not beleive it was going to be that bad. Our nurse in prevention was replying to my comments ,''no way, no way, it's just a small virus like a cold'' when I was telling her that it was super contagious and that asymptomatic people could spread it. They were not respecting the governement directives for the social distancing, coughing in my face, not even putting a hand in front of the mouth, never mind the elbow. Were pulling over my head to grab my phone to make a phone call, speaking over my head until I moved away, only to trigger an angry response ''why, I am NOT CONTAGIOUS!!!!!'' THAT WILL NOT WORK'' and I got that response from one of the manager.

I had to take a sick leave for 2 weeks for them to realize how serious this was, and when I returned to work there were already 4 cases but we were not told about it until 4 days later when they got the test results. I am sick and tired of morons not taking this seriously. Now I don't know how many elderly people will die where I work. It's very very sad.

The only way we could go with this crisis and avoid the worse, is if EVERYBODY wear a mask all the time when they leave their home or go to work. Take exemple of Taiwan, it's amazing. 25 millions people in an island the size of Vancouver, yet they managed to continue their activities without skipping a heart beat, and they are almost over it, only a few deaths. All the kids have to wear a mask at schools, and when they remove it to eat they are protected by a square plexiglass shield around them. Of course they also made them wash their hands numerous time per day.

We are not doing the right thing and this is going to last for a long time, because social distancing is good but that does not prevent a silent super spreader to spread the disease everywhere and infect others. Who says the virus only travel 6 feet? yeah right.

And I tought this was my dream job, it is more a nightmare job now.

I come back from work, wash my hands twice, put my clothing to wash in hot cycle, go to the shower and wash everything, including my hair, twice. Then I go to my room and stay there, afraid that I might have been contaminated and carry this disease and give it to my husband, whose having medical conditions. I only come out of my room with a surgical mask, to grab some food (I eat in my now dedicated bedroom) and go to the toilet, and I desinfect everything I touch. it's a nightmare. Those who are safe at home, you are VERY lucky.

I agree with you, so many people are super ignorant in Canada and the actions the government are taking could have been much sooner and better.

Hey Daniella,

Thanks for sharing that with us, I appreciate the extra information, and it's a sad story. I continue to feel that many people are not taking this seriously as well. My household has made two layered masks which we line with coffee filters inbetween the layers. However, we don't go out anyways (so far 2 grocery trips since March 18).

I hope we get through this quickly so you can enjoy your family life again, its unfair that people like you are taking the largest hit while I get to sit at home with my plants.

Thank you for posting that, and please stay safe yourself.

its only takes one look at the world to see how truely fortunate many people are in some areas. Still when the social distencing ruling came to my area I still saw kids at the playgrounds and parent talking around. thank god that theres no one there now, but still some people cant forsee a disaster until its right in front of you. :(
