Built a greenhouse

I built a 10x10ft greenhouse that I keep some agave, prickly pear, lime trees and winter my outdoor carnivourous plants. It’s mostly just for sitting in on days not nice enough to be outside. I heat it in the winter just to keep it from freezing. Unfortunately the tempature can get up to 40 degrees c at times in the summer

Couple questions, how much light does your greenhouse get? Do you have a door that can stay open and/or a vent and on either end? Is there air circulation?

My greenhouse gets extremely hot but there is distinctly different temperatures between the top Sarracena area and under the benches. Under the benches I grow Mexi-pings, Drosera regia, Cephalotus, Darlingtonia etc, all plants that dislike extreme heat. So while it can easily be high 30s where the Sarracenia are, under neither is much cooler. Our temperatures are the best part of living on the island.

One 12x12 inch vent at the very top. And a 5x 2 1/2 foot door I leave open this time of year. It gets full sun starting at 7am - 8pm maybe even 9pm on the long days. No fan the air really moves out the top vent on a hot day but not enough..

Agreed its ideal here!

You can see the door and vent here.

They don't look guilty to me. They have the look of dogs that sense humans are about to be angry. They have learned that this look will minimize human aggression. Like "I'm a dumb but lovable creature, I'm pretending that I have some idea that I did something wrong, and will certainly never annoy you again."

My greenhouse gets heated in the winter to 1 degree just to keep it from freezing. Maybe as @h20 said Mexi-pings possibly could be ok if partially shaded and in a low part on the floor?

they are such little @&$!’s but they amuse me. They do keep the deer, rabbits and the raccoons out of the garden and off my fruiting trees.

for the mexican ping the minimum temperature is 5 ° c lower seems pretty problematic

here in FRANCE I go out all my mexican ping out from end of may to mid october with no particular problem, but in shade or in morning sun preferably sheltered from the rain ,watering every 15 days by capilarity.

Covered over one my grape arbours this last weekend with polycarbonate green house plastic. Needed some more growing/sitting space in these rainy months. Should help some of the plants from getting over watered also freezing solid by being able to keep the soil dry. Can never have too manny spots to grow.
