bog orchids.

I was just wondering if anyone here grows bog orchids. I have heard that they grow well with other CPs and I think would be a great addition to any collection. I would love to hear about anyone's experience with them and see photos of them! Thanks in advance.

I've got some WA terrestrials I grow with my tuberous dews. Wet in the winter, dry in the summer. It all works fairly well.

Nope. Things like Diuris and Elythranthera species. I also have a nice blue Thelymitra.

Do you grow pogonia or calapogon? Also how do you grow those special orchids?

I grow a couple of bog orchids: Pogonia ophioglossoides is a weed that forms long runners and will fill up your pots or bog garden. Calopogon tuberosus is another easy species that I usually grow from seed, but it slowly forms nice clumps that can be divided during hibernation. Both are native to Central/Eastern Canada, grow well with Sarracenia and are hardy species.

Spiranthes should be another easy one. I have/tried a few other orchids (Platanthera, Cypripedium), but they are a lot more picky, need special care, are slow to multiply, and are pricey. So I wouldn't recommend unless you know what you are doing.

well if you want to see wild ones you can definitely find species of wild orchids.

Honestly, I think those orchids would go lovely in a big planter! I also have a hard time finding bogs, as I live incredibly far from the good ones

Don't collect wild plants! It's not good. You will find cultivated stuff if you are patient.
Plus the collected plants will almost certainly die. There are all sorts of issues with mycorrhizal fungae etc.

thank you for the tip! I usually wouldn't suggest that but I heard that they multiply quickly, so I thought no harm would come to their population.

Nothing multiplies faster than greed. I think one single ripe seed capsule cant do much harm to a big population, but still it is illegal here.
You are never the only one!

A I have some species growing here from seed on my hydroponic devices.
Last year for the first time Calopogon tuberosus from two sources. Both from expert growers.
They formed a small typical round tuber. Now they start their second cycle with first shoots. Seeds must be fresh.

Floating gardens with much less substrate

I grow habenaria orchids indoors. They need a dry winter rest, but during the growing season would be considered bog orchids. Other bogy orchids I'm having luck with are nervilia plicata and corybas. Again, none of mine are for my zone though.
