Barrel Bog Question

Zimmey

Carnivore
My mini "barrel" bog. Something got into it on the first day, so I put some impenetrable armour on it (hopefully). But knowing Lloyd's experience with squirrels, I might need some motion detecting slingshots.
  • Sarracenia purpurea
  • VFT + VFT "clumping"
  • Drosera filiformis
  • Drosera binata
  • Utricularia calycifida (not sure about dormancy on this one, but had so much figured I'd throw it in)

This looks great! Nice work. I would suggest some Sarracenia (non purps) in there just to give it some height and lots of them are ok with temp drops.

So far I've been lucky with the squirrels, but we do have them and they have buried lots of things in our garden.

Look at those traps on the VFT! Those are huge! Nicely done. :)

Nothing crazy but since it’s moveable I winter it in my greenhouse that’s kept above freezing. I mostly just winter plants in there as I don’t like the way things grow in greenhouses, or at least the way the do in mine. I find they don’t get the colour they could outside, temperature warms up so early in the year that especially Sarracenia all come on at once then are all over at once, so I grow my plants outside. I didn’t take a any pictures this winter in there but I have racks of shelving with trays of small carnivorous plants and a collection of cacti.

Here’s a couple pots of plants wintering in the greenhouse from a bunch of years ago.

It actually did freeze in there this winter pretty good when we got to -11 but I didn’t lose any plants. I have a oil heater I use just to keep it from freezing when it’s below zero, it was maxed but couldn’t keep up. This is the extension cord to the greenhouse usually it doesn’t burn the snow hah!
