Fortunately it’s not my fruit trees this time, it’s a wild tree at the back of my yard.

Shouldn’t have killed all those wasps with my sarr’s :D

My fruit trees earlier this year.

A tanglefoot barrier to stop the ants allowed the ladybugs to get the aphids under control and the trees recovered.

Don’t forget to tanglefoot your trees before they leaf out this spring.

If your trees are like mine and suffer from aphids and caterpillars use tanglefoot instead of toxic sprays, it works even better. It creates a always sticky barrier bugs can’t cross to prevent an outbreak from happening in your tree. You don’t need to use any sprays because the wasps and ladybugs will keep everything healthy as long as the ants can’t get up there to farm and protect the aphids Use tape though so your trees don’t become a sticky mess.

Soapy water and Epsom salts mixture work great on aphids. But do not use on CP ! were I work this mix is used in the grow houses for spot control infestation.

It happened again. Another aphid birthing event, this time inside on my Drosera burmannii ‘Humpty doo’ I was a little shaky this morning, the day after Canada day so that’s the best focus I was able to get.

I have had really good success with aphidoletes aphidimyza.
They are a small predatory midge, smaller than a fruit fly.
You release them in the evening and they fly up into your plants, lay their eggs and their larvae hatch out a day or two later.
The larvae can eat upwards of 50 aphids a day each!
I applied them last year and i have found a few around my yard this season and almost no aphids so the claims about these bugs "re-seeding" themselves seem to be true.

I have also used them indoors in grow tents and they work there, too.

I'm trying a dilution of canola oil and a tiny bit of dish soap to manage aphids. I'm willing to sacrifice the one affected plant. If it works, great. Nothing else has.
