Vancouver Island: bog hike. June 25 2022

I'd like to try to tag along. I'll know this week what my summer schedule is and whether I'll be working from a remote research station come June 25 or still in south coastal BC. The catch is I don't have 4WD.

    Hello all from Regina, Saskatchewan!

It's always miserably humid around Vancouver. CPs love that. It's June and we still haven't had any sunshine or warmth though. I waited until MAY to move my VFTs and Sarrs outside and I've lost all my tall pitchers to windstorms.

    What's your favourite sarr today?

I love my rubra's pitchers this year.

    Hello all from Regina, Saskatchewan!

I can't imagine growing CPs in the Plains! I attribute most of my success to the extremely mild climate of the PNW. I bet I'd fail completely in Saskatchewan.

    CPs in Vancouver-area stores

I've had good experiences with this supplier's hydrophytes in general. I have a scarlet belle of theirs that is years old and would survive a nuclear blast, I swear.

    CPs in Vancouver-area stores

So the S. Velvets look pretty rough. The maroons and Purp. Venosas look great tho. There's a couple species of sundews in the indoor plant section too. I think they're sold out of VFTs and Nepenthes.

    CPs in Vancouver-area stores

Art's Nursery in Port Kells has a few species of Sarracenia. Nothing fancy but lots of plants and they look to be in great condition.

Neem oil in the Vancouver area

I had a "duh" moment. I make loads of bath and candle stuff. If anywhere in the lower mainland sells neem oil it's going to be a bath and body materials supplier. I visited mine, which is near Willowbrook. They have LOADS of the stuff. I bought 125mL for $5 but could have bought 4L for $95. :D...

Neem oil in the Vancouver area

What's the recommended dilution for neem oil in water when using it to treat CPs?

Neem oil in the Vancouver area

Once the aphids are dead, I wonder if neem oil will be good for my hair. :D

Neem oil in the Vancouver area

Does anyone from in/around Vancouver know where a good place to purchase neem oil is? My Venus flytraps are covered in aphids. I'm having no problem finding prepared insecticides with neem oil as an ingredient. I have no idea how my plants would respond to all the other ingredients though. I...

BC - Pinecone Burke Provincial Park, Coquitlam

I spent a number of months on a project in Pinecone Burke Provincial Park last year. So beautiful!

    What do you think?

Looks like a Canadian Tire shipment of CPs came from the same supplier as the ones I found at Potters but even cheaper. There's my thunder stolen! The Potters shipment also contained a bunch of tiny Sarracenias but, as was the case with the Nepenthes, I have no idea what species were there. All...

    What do you think?

I think it may be a clubmoss. It's weird.

    What do you think?

I found these little guys at the nursery yesterday. They were just labelled "pitcher plant". I've never been able to keep a nepenthes this small (5 cm) alive but they were $7 a piece. If I can keep them alive I'll gift one to my mom next year. If they die, I'm only $14 out. So what do you...
