Glow in the dark mushrooms

As i was seperating i found a piece that when it flipped over i saw a cluster of little white hard bubbles. Im assuming it was the fungi, but not sure. I still seperated a few and ove piece split apart and had a white fuzzy thing inside with a little fungus growing out of it. (Possibly old) but the fuzz was new. So i have hopes for both containers now

Nice, those bubbles are fruiting bodies beginning to form! The white fuzzy stuff should be new mycellium, the hyphae will be noticeably whiter/shorter than with the other fungi that are invading. The substrate will be a bit of a battleground for a while, but the stipticus seems to always come out on top.

I went for the plugs which are just inoculated wooden dowels. Some for the kid and my brother. Sounds pretty easy maby not as fast as using chips but faster than spores. just drill couple holes in a fresh 4 inch oak log tap the dowels below the bark and seal with wax. Keep it moist and 3 to 6 moths later there should be mushrooms.

Right now I can find as much fresh falled Garry oak logs as I want. They are clearing two hillsides nearby one for gravel pit and condos and the other for houses. This type of oak tree only grows here, they say one of Canada’s most endangered ecosystems. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/environment/plants-animals-and-ecosystems/conservation-data-centre/publications/erickson_garry_oak.pdf

I tried woodchips from bonfield in the spring, and didnt have much luck. Im sure i did stuff wrong, but i decided i would try the syringe and see if i had different results. With the dowels do you need to put it in oak? Or does other wood work? There arent many oaks where i am. Its even hard to find oak leaf litter for my animals here! I have to buy it hahah

Not from my own experience here but this is what I read. It will consume any hardwood (deciduous) but its preferred hosts are oak, birch, maple, hickory, pecan, and American hornbeam while in Europe, it is commonly found growing on oak, birch, alder, beech, hazel and chestnut.

The dowels already have the mushroom of your choice growing so it speeds up the process and helps to insure it takes. If you have a big back yard with trees and one dies or falls down. you could order dowels with edible oyster mushrooms or others drill a couple holes and grow them right there in the dead tree as it sits or in a pile.

I had them in my dart frog tank. I ordered the pouch a few posts before. They lasted and did well for months then they all died off. It is 100% humidity in the tank so that might have been the problem. I would like to try some more!
